Pat called the meeting to order at 7:05.

1.         Minutes of the February 16, 2005 meeting were circulated and read.  No emailing of the Minutes had been done.  Tammy Van Holland made a motion to accept the Minutes as presented.  Shari Skytt 2nd.  All in favour.  Carried.

2.         Carolyn Huculak, Treasurer, was unable to give our exact bank balance at this time.  Teacher Appreciation week expenses are being finalized and the last hot day net is also yet to be determined (per Pat Giffin hot dog day gross is $572.50).  General discussion took place regarding the sale or giving of the balance of thermal mugs (ca. 25) left over from Teacher Appreciation Week.  It was decided by all those in attendance that we sell them on a first come first serve basis at the next dance.  Price to be determined (purchase price was $4.50 ea plus GST).

3.                  Correspondence was next on the agenda and was as follows:

a.       CURE Foundation – inviting us to participate in National Denim Day on May 10 to help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer.  General discussion arose as to whether or not we wanted to participate fully in the event.  It was noted that we currently participate in the Terry Fox Run, Jump Rope for Heart, etc on a regular basis.  Pat Giffin suggested that rather than participate with the full event and ask for $5 donations, registration forms, pink ribbons, etc, we would advise of the event either in the May newsletter &/or by notices sent home that children dress in “denim” on May 10 and donate either a $1 or $2, doing so on a slightly smaller scale.  All proceeds will be forwarded to the CURE foundation on behalf of the school.

b.      Letter re:  Victims of Violence Child ID Program – was received from the Drumheller Lions Club advising of the availability of  “Child ID Kits”.  (A copy of the letter is attached to the Minute Book copy of these Minutes).  Normally the cost is as much as $30 each, however, the Lions Club is willing to provide these kits to all Greentree School students at no cost and even help with the completion and fingerprinting.  All in attendance agreed that this was a worthwhile project.  Anne Morgan will contact Lions Club members John Shoff or Jerry Beskowine to get the program rolling.  A consent form will be included in the April newsletter for parents to complete.

c.       A.H.S.C.A Pre-AGM package – We have previously made a motion to send to representatives to this meeting (beginning of April) and to cover their expenses.  As at this meeting time no one is able to attend.

d.      Marketing your Organization – is happening at the ATCO Learning Centre, Royal Tyrrell Museum on Mon Apr 11.  Cost is $40 per person.  Anne Morgan is attending on behalf of the school.  Anne Morgan made a motion that council pay for a member to attend.  Tammy Van Holland 2nd.  All in favour.  Carried.

e.       Letter re:  Motivational Magic (previous assembly) - Since our last meeting and prior to this meeting an opportunity arose for the school to have Mr. Steve Harmer (Motivational Magic) attend and perform at the last assembly (coincides with this month’s virtue on tolerance).  Total cost is $600 + GST, and executive made the decision to pay for ½.  Post motion for this was by Carolyn Huculak to pay $300 + GST and seconded by Rhonda Page.  All in favour. Carried.

f.        Request from Grade 6’s re:  Edmonton trip – was received from teacher Allison Ostergard (copy attached).  They are looking for $924.50 to help cover their costs to the Legislature on May 12.  Anne Morgan confirmed that in previous years council had contributed$500 and Jeff Grimsdale also advised that one year the class had gas donated.  All in attendance agreed that the trip was important as part of the Gr 6’s learning.  Carolyn Huculak made a motion to give $500 to the Gr 6 Edmonton field trip and that we let the Gr 6’s work the concession at the spring dance, receiving any profits to the difference of $424.50.  Lisa McKenzie 2nd.  All in favour.  Carried.
